South Korea’s KOSPI Jumps 5% as Samsung Electronics Gains 7%
SK Hynix gained 5.8%, and a KOSPI sidecar mechanism paused program buying.

South Korea’s KOSPI climbed 5% on Wednesday, Oct. 28, while Samsung Electronics rose 7% and SK Hynix gained 5.8%, putting the index and both named stocks higher in a sharp session for South Korean equities.
The advances covered both named companies, with each rising faster than the KOSPI. Samsung had the stronger move of the two stocks, while the index also posted a substantial rise of its own.
The Korea Exchange’s sidecar action on Oct. 28 paused program buying. The move accompanied the index rise and gains in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.
The three percentage changes all remained positive. Across those moves, the KOSPI’s 5% gain was the smallest, while Samsung’s 7% rise was the largest. Samsung outpaced the index by 2 percentage points and SK Hynix by 1.2 points. SK Hynix’s 5.8% increase exceeded the benchmark by 0.8 percentage point, leaving each company’s move above the index’s gain.
