U.S. initial jobless claims edged lower in the week ended Oct. 24, landing below forecasts and extending a run of readings under 200,000 that points to limited layoff pressure.

Claims totaled 194,000, 5,000 below the 199,000 forecast. The prior week's 194,000 initial estimate for the week ended Oct. 17 was revised up to 195,000, leaving the latest total 1,000 lower than the revised level.

Claims were 197,000 for the week ended Sept. 19 and 199,000 for the week ended Oct. 10. A 191,000 reading in December 2025 was the lowest since September 2022.

For crypto markets, the figures offer little evidence of rising layoffs. Persistently low claims can reduce the urgency for monetary easing and make it harder for employment data alone to build expectations for looser liquidity. A single week's reading can be noisy and provide less guidance for rate expectations than the broader trend.
