Eligible international brokers may access Switzerland’s first exchange-traded retail Bitcoin fund through SIX after its launch, but that route does not authorize them to offer it to customers in the United States or elsewhere.

The Bitcoin Fund ETF (BBIT) is expected to begin trading on SIX Swiss Exchange in November 2026. No exact start date has been announced. Danielle Reischuk, senior ETFs and ETPs sales manager at SIX Swiss Exchange, said brokers may access the fund directly as approved trading participants, subject to regulatory and technical requirements, or through an existing participant.

BIT Asset Management says public sale of the fund is approved only in Switzerland. Whether a broker can offer BBIT to customers in another country depends on that country’s rules. Reischuk said Swiss investors may also have to wait for their bank or broker to support the security and complete the technical setup.

The fund’s legal structure differs from many crypto products already listed in Switzerland. Those exchange-traded products are collateralized bearer debt securities, while BBIT is a Swiss collective investment scheme that holds only Bitcoin. Its assets are kept separate from those of BIT Asset Management.

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) approved the fund on Oct. 20. The regulator classified it as an “other fund for alternative investments” with a specific risk and granted an exception to applicable diversification rules. FINMA cited Bitcoin’s long trading history and high trading volume compared with other cryptocurrencies in explaining the exception. The decision is covered in FINMA’s Oct. 20 approval.

FINMA cautioned: “Investments in Bitcoin – even through an approved ETF – remain highly risky.” BBIT’s trading start is expected in November, with the precise date still unannounced.
