Crypto markets recorded $949 million in liquidations over a 12-hour period, with long positions making up nearly 85% of the total and dominating the forced closures.

The total comprised $803 million in long liquidations and $146 million in short liquidations. Those amounts represent about 84.6% and 15.4% of the total, respectively, a gap of $657 million between the two sides. Together, the long and short figures account for the full $949 million.

Long positions are trades that gain when an asset’s price rises, while short positions gain when prices fall. A liquidation is a forced closure of a trading position. The 12-hour breakdown shows that long liquidations accounted for most of the reported dollar value.

The figure is a short-term aggregate across crypto markets. Long-position liquidation value was nearly 5.5 times the value for short positions.
