South Korean stocks slid Friday, Oct. 30, with the KOSPI down 3.53% and chipmaker SK Hynix off about 7%, as a wider Asian equity retreat also hit Japan.

The KOSPI lost 209.62 points to finish at 5,728.04. Samsung Electronics fell about 3%, leaving its decline roughly four percentage points shallower than Hynix’s. South Korea’s index decline was steeper on a percentage basis than Japan’s.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1,369.36 points, or 2.12%, to close at 63,290.11. Electronics shares weighed on the Japanese benchmark. The KOSPI’s percentage fall exceeded the Nikkei’s by 1.41 percentage points, or about 1.7 times Japan’s decline. The Nikkei lost more points in absolute terms, while percentage changes show the relative daily move across indexes with different levels. Both benchmarks ended lower, with the sharper index decline in South Korea alongside steep losses in its chip shares.
