On Oct. 30, 99,999,999 XRP moved to Ripple from a wallet with no identified owner. The amount equals about 0.1% of the XRP Ledger’s original 100 billion XRP supply.

The transaction records a transfer to Ripple but does not establish whether the tokens were sold or why they were sent. The sending wallet’s owner is not identified.

XRP is native to the ledger, while Ripple is a company that received an allocation from the ledger’s founders. When the ledger launched in June 2012, it had 100 billion XRP, and its software is designed to prevent new tokens from being created. In September 2012, the founders sent 80 billion XRP to the company that would become Ripple. The XRP supply rules and Ripple escrow provide background on XRP’s fixed supply.
