The total has stayed at 603 since an earlier weekly survey showed a five-rig increase.

The United States had 603 active oil and gas drilling rigs Friday, leaving the total unchanged for a third consecutive week after an earlier survey brought it to that level with a five-rig increase.

A prior weekly survey recorded the increase that lifted the count to 603.
