U.S. Gasoline Averaged $4.18, More Than Double Trump’s Below-$2 Target
Regular gasoline and diesel were both below their levels from a week and a month earlier, but above their year-earlier averages.

U.S. regular gasoline averaged $4.1837 per gallon on Oct. 31, more than twice President Donald Trump’s below-$2 target, even as gasoline and diesel prices eased from a week and a month earlier.
Diesel averaged $6.3101 per gallon. Gasoline was down from $4.2957 a week earlier and $4.4343 a month earlier. Diesel fell from $6.3374 and $6.4139 over the same periods, respectively.
Both fuels remained above their year-earlier averages. On Oct. 31, 2025, regular gasoline averaged $3.0403 per gallon and diesel averaged $3.6876.
Trump, then a presidential candidate, said in a Sept. 5, 2024, campaign speech, “My plan will cut energy prices in half or more than that within 12 months of taking office.” He also promised gasoline below $2 per gallon.
The latest available U.S. Gulf Coast spot price for kerosene-type jet fuel was $4.444 per gallon on Oct. 27, compared with $2.250 on the same date in 2025. The increase was 97.5%. The figure is a regional spot benchmark, not an airline’s purchase price.
