Twenty percent of Gen X respondents in a 2026 U.S. survey said they were invested in or considering cryptocurrency. The share was 35% among millennials, 32% among Gen Z and 8% among Boomers+.

The survey covered 4,375 U.S. adults age 18 or older from Jan. 5-21, 2026.

Among respondents using or considering high-risk or speculative assets, 73% said they felt financially behind and believed those assets offered a faster route to their goals. The figure was 80% among Gen Z; the measure covered high-risk or speculative assets generally.

A separate 2026 survey found 73% of Gen X respondents feared running out of money more than death, compared with 69% of millennials and 59% of boomers. The January survey included 1,000 U.S. adults age 25 or older who met specified income or asset thresholds.

“Rising costs and ongoing economic uncertainty are making many people wonder if their savings will run out,” said Kelly LaVigne, vice president of consumer insights at Allianz Life.
