The State Street Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR ETF (XLP) climbed 10.94% in October 2026, reaching an all-time high of $90.38. The gain was the fund’s strongest monthly performance since its December 1998 launch.

The move came as investors shifted toward defensive businesses with predictable demand, steady earnings and recurring cash flow. Technology stocks faced selling pressure tied to valuations and artificial intelligence investment concerns.

Estée Lauder, Constellation Brands and Walmart were among XLP’s leading gainers for the month. Bunge was the largest drag, followed by Archer-Daniels-Midland and Target.

An earlier market update on U.S. consumer staples stocks also included XLP.
