The Israeli military is prepared to join a U.S. air operation against Iran if President Donald Trump asks for its participation after the Tuesday, Nov. 3, midterm elections; Washington and Jerusalem have not agreed on the operation’s objectives.

More than 10 U.S. military transport aircraft arrived during the past week at Nevatim and Ovda air bases in southern Israel. The United States is also moving air-defense systems and interceptors to Israel and Arab allies. U.S. forces in the region remain below levels seen during some earlier deployments, but the current movement may be only the beginning.

Trump has withdrawn threats of strikes against Iran before, including in August and early October.

The prospect has gained ground again as efforts to secure concessions from Tehran continue and some members of Trump's team renew support for military action.
