Stablecoin market capitalization declined by $4.53 billion last week while decentralized exchange (DEX) spot volume rose 24.06% week over week, showing opposing moves in the two market measures.

Perpetual DEX volume increased 5.79% over the same weekly comparison. Stablecoins are crypto assets designed to maintain a stable value and provide a base for transactions and liquidity. The figures show the measures moved in opposite directions but do not establish that one caused the other.

An earlier Oct. 12-18 reading showed market capitalization down $1.65 billion, with spot DEX volume up 5.83% and perpetual volume up 4.36%, in an earlier look at stablecoin and DEX activity.
