South Korea’s KOSPI fell 4% Tuesday as losses spread across Asian equities, while a 3% decline in Taiwan showed that the sharpest pressure extended beyond one market.

The KOSPI stood at 5,624.02 points after its loss widened to 4%. Taiwan’s weighted stock index fell 3% to 43,570.41 points, and Indonesia’s benchmark index was down as much as 2% intraday.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 was down 0.33%, while the Shanghai Composite fell 0.71%. South Korea and Taiwan had the largest declines among the five reported markets, with Indonesia next and Japan and mainland China posting smaller losses.

The figures are intraday readings rather than closing levels. Across the five markets, losses ranged from 0.33% in Japan to 4% in South Korea, a spread of 3.67 percentage points. Taiwan’s 3% decline was also more than four times Shanghai’s 0.71% drop, while Indonesia’s loss was no greater than 2%. The readings show a region-wide but uneven decline.
