Zcash (ZEC) climbed 11.80% in 24 hours to $1,266 on Binance’s spot market at 1:25 a.m. ET (06:25 UTC) Nov. 4, ahead of the network’s NU7 upgrade.

NU7 is set to activate when the mainnet reaches block 3,543,405. The activation trigger is a block height rather than a calendar date, so the date depends on when the network reaches that point.

The upgrade would shorten target spacing between blocks from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, a reduction of 50 seconds. The new target interval is one-third as long as the current one.

The Zcash Foundation released Zebra 7.0.0 on Oct. 22 with NU7 support for mainnet.

“All Mainnet node operators must upgrade before NU7 activates to stay on the consensus chain,” the Zcash Foundation said.

The next defined milestone is the network reaching block 3,543,405, which triggers the upgrade.
