Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said Wednesday that four oil tankers were destroyed after striking mines near the Strait of Hormuz, raising concern about oil shipments and broader risk sentiment, including crypto markets.

The IRGC said the tankers were attempting to use a southern route near the strait that it had designated as prohibited. It described all four vessels as still burning. The force also said it had seized two other ships.

That account ties the tanker damage to the Guard’s declared route restriction. The two seized vessels were described as additional ships, apart from the four tankers said to have hit mines. The announcement therefore covers both reported mine strikes and vessel seizures.

For markets, the potential concern is a threat to oil transport near the strait. For crypto, the link is indirect: shipping security can feed into broader risk sentiment across asset classes. The announcement itself centered on vessels, mines and route access.
