The index was below September’s 58.4 but stayed above 50, the threshold indicating month-to-month expansion.

The final October U.S. Composite PMI was 55.9, below the preliminary estimate of 57.6 and September’s 58.4, while still indicating expansion in U.S. business activity.

The final figure updates the October flash estimate, which was 57.6. Growth in both manufacturing production and services activity slowed during October.

A reading above 50 signals that activity expanded from the previous month. PMI scores are index readings, not percentage growth rates.
