Tesla was one of the most significant detractors from relative performance for the Polen 5Perspectives Large Growth Composite Portfolio in the third quarter of 2026, when it returned -0.04% net of fees.

The Russell 1000 Growth Index gained 0.92% over the same period. Tesla posted record second-quarter 2026 revenue, while profit margins faced pressure and planned spending on AI and robotics drew scrutiny.

Tesla continued work on its Robotaxi service and Cybercab vehicle. Demand for its core vehicles and energy storage products remained generally healthy.

Portfolio manager Drew Cupps described the AI market decline as a “pause that refreshes.” The Polen 5Perspectives team reduced industrial exposure tied to electrification and AI infrastructure while increasing technology holdings, including semiconductor and software companies. The team said its strategy focuses on companies applying AI to their operations and services.
