Samsung, SK Hynix Fall More Than 10% as Asian Markets Slide
KOSPI 200 futures fell 7.9%, while an ETF tracking South Korean stocks lost 13% overnight. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped more than 12%, its largest one-day loss since March 2020.

On Thursday evening ET, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix fell more than 10% in early Friday trading in South Korea, extending a global technology selloff that also drove Korean and Japanese equity futures lower.
The KOSPI 200 futures contract dropped 7.9%, while an exchange-traded fund tracking South Korean stocks lost 13% overnight. In Japan, Nikkei 225 futures for December delivery stood at 57,255 as of 6:02 p.m. ET Thursday (8:02 a.m. Friday in Tokyo), 6.26% below the Nikkei 225's Thursday close of 61,077.90.
The selloff followed a 6.4% decline in the Nasdaq 100 and a more than 12% drop in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. The semiconductor index's loss was its largest one-day decline since March 2020.
The figures span several measures: individual Korean shares, KOSPI 200 futures, an ETF's overnight performance and a Japanese futures quote versus the cash index's prior close. The sequence extends the U.S. technology selloff into both Korean and Japanese markets.
