U.S. Stock Futures Rebound as Strategists See Rotation and Volatility Persist

The Nov. 6 bounce followed a steep selloff after Democrats won control of Congress. Strategists also questioned whether AI infrastructure spending can deliver the earnings and cash flow investors expected.

U.S. stock index futures rebounded Nov. 6 after sharp swings and a steep cash-market selloff, as strategists warned that volatility and sector rotation could persist.

The previous session’s stock-market decline followed Democrats’ midterm election victory and their resulting control of Congress. The new futures advance marked another recovery in the post-election period; TokenPost previously covered an earlier futures rebound after the midterms.

Daniel Murray, deputy chief investment officer at EFG Asset Management, advised investors to prepare for sector rotation to continue and market volatility to remain elevated. He urged investors to assess portfolio allocations against fundamentals and avoid letting market sentiment or panic dictate decisions. His guidance focused on how to navigate unsettled trading rather than on a single market direction.

Stephan Kemper, chief investment officer for BNP Paribas Wealth Management Germany, focused on whether technology stocks represent value or a value trap. He said their valuations were well below their long-term average, while earnings expectations had not fallen significantly. That combination supported the value case in his view, though the distinction remained a central question for the market.

Greg Boland, a market strategist at Moomoo New Zealand, offered a different reading of the rebound. He described it as dip-buying and short covering, rather than a fundamental change in sentiment. That assessment separates trading activity behind the bounce from evidence of a broader shift in investors’ outlook.

Boland pointed to AI infrastructure spending as a test for technology investment. The key question, he said, is whether the large investments in the area can generate the earnings and cash flow investors expected. Together, the strategists’ views put attention on both the durability of the rebound and the financial returns from AI infrastructure spending.
