Former Coinbase Germany CEO Joins LUKSO as COO to Drive Web3 Adoption

Jan-Oliver Sell, former CEO and Managing Director of Coinbase Germany, has joined Universal Everything, the tech company behind the LUKSO blockchain, as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Sell brings extensive experience in crypto regulation and operations, notably helping Coinbase secure Germany’s first crypto custody license from BaFin in 2021.

LUKSO, a next-gen Layer 1 blockchain focused on digital identity, creator economies, and social applications, is positioning itself as a leader in mainstream Web3 adoption. With over 140,000 community validators and 30,000 Universal Profiles already established, the project continues to grow beyond traditional finance use cases.

Sell’s appointment signals a strategic push to scale LUKSO’s ecosystem and forge partnerships across creative industries. He aims to transition the platform from its technical roots into a user-friendly Web3 solution accessible to non-crypto natives. LUKSO’s signature feature—Universal Profiles—offers smart contract-based accounts that give users control over their digital identity and assets. Its LUKSO Standard Proposals (LSPs) extend Ethereum’s capabilities, enabling programmable profiles, metadata-rich NFTs, and upgradable tokens.

Founded by Ethereum veteran Fabian Vogelsteller, author of the ERC-20 token standard, LUKSO has earned a reputation as a pioneer in account abstraction. Vogelsteller emphasized Sell’s operational expertise as key to realizing the company’s vision of a more intuitive, inclusive blockchain experience.
