Binance’s former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) has issued a stark warning to the crypto community, urging users to stay alert following recent cybersecurity breaches targeting top industry platforms. Posting on X, CZ highlighted the hack of CoinTelegraph’s (CT) website, where malicious code was reportedly embedded in the platform’s ad system. The warning originated from @realScamSniffer, who confirmed CT’s frontend was compromised.
Just days earlier, CoinMarketCap (CMC)—a major crypto data provider owned by Binance—was also breached. CZ confirmed that 39 users were affected, collectively losing $18,570. He assured that CMC will fully compensate the victims. He further cautioned users to be careful when using wallet connection features, which are increasingly exploited by hackers.
CZ also commented on the broader crypto market outlook. In a separate post, he said he considers every dip before a new all-time high (ATH) an opportunity. While not naming Bitcoin specifically, he referenced leading cryptocurrencies and emphasized that only a few strong assets will break past previous ATHs. Bitcoin’s last ATH occurred on May 22, reaching $111,970. Rather than naming the next big winner, CZ encouraged investors to focus on cryptocurrencies with long-term viability and solid fundamentals.
Additionally, CZ reacted to Elon Musk’s recent statement about upgrading his AI chatbot, Grok, to “rewrite the entire corpus of human knowledge.” Zhao described the plan as ambitious and said he’s eager to see how such a controversial idea unfolds.
With hacks increasing and AI’s role expanding, CZ’s insights serve as a reminder for crypto investors to stay vigilant, prioritize security, and think long-term in their investment strategies.
