NBA superstar Kevin Durant has regained access to his long-lost Bitcoin holdings after being locked out of his Coinbase account for almost 10 years. The recovery was confirmed by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who posted on X, “We got this fixed. Account recovery complete,” in response to a viral discussion about Durant’s situation.

The timing comes just days after Durant and his business partner, Rich Kleiman, spoke at CNBC’s Game Plan conference about their struggles to recover the account. Kleiman explained that it had been “a process we haven’t been able to figure out,” but noted that Bitcoin’s price growth during that period meant the lockout had ironically worked in their favor.

Durant first invested in Bitcoin back in 2016 after hearing about it from his Golden State Warriors teammates. At the time, Bitcoin traded between $360 and $1,000, and reports suggest he purchased around $650 per coin. Today, the cryptocurrency is hovering near $116,000, representing a staggering gain of more than 17,700%. While the size of Durant’s holdings remains undisclosed, the potential value is significant.

Durant and Kleiman are also known investors in Coinbase and have promoted the exchange through their media platform, Boardroom. Their experience highlights broader frustrations among Coinbase customers who have faced similar account access challenges. In response to growing criticism, Armstrong said the company is putting a “big focus” on improving customer support and account recovery systems.
