Peter Brandt Turns Bullish on Bitcoin After Major Breakout

Legendary futures trader and Factor LLC CEO Peter Brandt has reversed his bearish Bitcoin outlook and opened a long position after BTC confirmed a significant technical breakout.

Brandt had previously expected Bitcoin to remain under pressure as the cryptocurrency struggled through a prolonged downtrend. He said there was good reason to anticipate another move lower, particularly as a developing chart formation appeared more likely to break bearish.

According to Brandt, the extended formation of the pattern’s right shoulder suggested roughly a 60/40 probability of a downside resolution. The broader Bitcoin price trend also remained negative at the time, reinforcing his cautious stance.

However, Bitcoin’s latest rally invalidated that bearish scenario. BTC pushed above resistance around $64,000, established support and broke out of a multiweek consolidation range with strong momentum.

On the daily CME Bitcoin futures chart, the move also completed an inverted head-and-shoulders pattern, a technical formation commonly associated with a potential bullish reversal. The breakout above the pattern’s neckline prompted Brandt to change his Bitcoin trading strategy.

During the latest session, the CME Bitcoin futures contract climbed to approximately $72,335, recording a daily increase of about $2,585.

Brandt acknowledged that completion of the head-and-shoulders bottom changed his market assessment. Rather than holding onto his previous bearish prediction, he followed the new technical signal and bought the Bitcoin breakout.

His sudden shift attracted criticism from some social media users, who questioned the usefulness of assigning a 60/40 probability to an individual trading setup. Brandt responded by pointing to the law of large numbers and the role of probability in professional risk management.

The veteran trader argued that a modest statistical advantage may mean little when evaluating a single Bitcoin trade. Across a sufficiently large number of trades, however, even a relatively small edge can help produce positive long-term expectancy.

Brandt’s reversal highlights how experienced traders can adjust their positions when Bitcoin price action invalidates an earlier thesis, rather than remaining committed to a forecast after market conditions change.
