President Donald Trump plans to create an “AI Force” and appoint a White House AI chief to coordinate federal policy, with Jay Clayton expected to take the role and a decision possible as early as Friday.

Clayton, director of national intelligence and former SEC chair, is expected to remain in his intelligence post if he takes the AI role. The appointment has not been officially confirmed; Trump would formally announce any personnel decision.

Clayton led the SEC for most of Trump’s first term and was confirmed as director of national intelligence in July.
