Bitcoin Developer Amir Taaki Says Singapore Deported Him
Taaki said police questioned him for six hours about his work before removing him from the country. He also described other detentions and deportations during the past year.

Amir Taaki, one of Bitcoin’s first contributors, said Singapore deported him after police questioned him for six hours about his work, bringing renewed attention to the privacy developer’s encounters with authorities in several countries.
“Just got questioned for 6 hours by glow police then deported from Singapore,” Taaki wrote on X on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Taaki now works on DarkFi, a crypto privacy protocol. He said that during the past year he was also deported from Argentina and Mexico and detained in Serbia and Japan.
Taaki said authorities described those encounters as random checks and did not explain why they questioned or detained him.
His work includes the first implementations of CoinJoin and stealth addresses, privacy tools for Bitcoin (BTC). He also created libbitcoin and authored BIP 0001, which set up the Bitcoin Improvement Proposal process.
