Better Home & Finance Holding Company named former X CEO Linda Yaccarino an independent director effective Oct. 15, as it faces a Nov. 27 deadline to file a plan addressing Nasdaq governance deficiencies.

Yaccarino is the first director appointed under Better 2.0. Her stated agenda pairs broader use of the Tinman AI platform with cost discipline and long-term shareholder value. “Better is making life’s largest financial decision for an American family more affordable, more accessible, and more transparent with AI,” Yaccarino said.

Her appointment follows an Oct. 5 board overhaul. An independent inspector certified that holders of 52.02% of Better’s outstanding voting power backed removing five incumbent directors. Director Hugh Frater resigned as the removals took effect. Better founder Vishal Garg was then the only director left and named four replacements.

Nasdaq’s Oct. 13 notice said independent directors did not hold a majority of the board’s seats and the audit committee did not meet the three-independent-member minimum. Better’s Oct. 5 notification to Nasdaq listed four deficiencies; the later notice specified two. The company has 45 calendar days, through Nov. 27, to submit a compliance plan. The notice did not immediately affect Better’s listing.

Better’s preliminary, unaudited results for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, put loan volume at $1.395 billion and total net revenue at $45.1 million. Revenue was below the company’s guidance of $49 million to $52 million. Better estimated an adjusted EBITDA loss of $24.8 million to $25.8 million, with about $8 million tied to proxy-related costs. The revenue estimate was $6.2 million below consensus and $9.6 million lower than the previous quarter, as covered in earlier coverage of Better’s third-quarter revenue estimate.

Better and Coinbase made a conforming mortgage product generally available on Aug. 26. Eligible Coinbase One members can pledge crypto collateral without selling their holdings. Better handles loan origination and servicing, Coinbase powers the product, and Fannie Mae guidelines shape its design.
