Anthropic CEO Says Culture Takes Up to 40% of His Time as Company Grows
In February, Dario Amodei described Anthropic as having 2,500 people. Investors later discussed a possible IPO valuation near $1.5 trillion.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said culture takes up to 40% of his time, describing how the company’s growth has changed his role as it prepares for a potential public offering.
In a Feb. 13 interview, Amodei estimated that about one-third of his time goes toward maintaining the company’s culture, with the share possibly reaching 40%. He described Anthropic as a company of 2,500 people at the time and said its size made it harder for him to take part in every decision involving model training, launches and products.
Amodei holds a company meeting about once every two weeks, speaking for roughly an hour. He prepares a three- or four-page document and takes questions. Topics include internal matters, models and products, the broader AI industry and geopolitical developments.
He also described using an internal Slack channel to answer employee questions and address concerns raised in surveys. His account of the culture work centered on whether employees feel connected to Anthropic’s mission, trust one another and work well together as the company grows.
“I probably spend a third, maybe 40%, of my time making sure the culture of Anthropic is good,” Amodei said.
Anthropic submitted a confidential draft S-1 to the SEC on June 1. The company said a potential offering would depend on market conditions and that it had not set the share count or offering price.
At an Oct. 14 investor meeting, some participants discussed a valuation of about $1.5 trillion for a possible November offering, below earlier investor expectations of roughly $2 trillion. Those figures reflect investor discussions; Anthropic has not announced a final IPO valuation or confirmed an offering date.
Anthropic’s valuation was estimated at nearly $1 trillion in an earlier estimate, providing another reference point for the later discussions.
