Changpeng Zhao Mocks Economist Peter Schiff’s Bitcoin Forecasts
Schiff said Bitcoin may not reach zero but later forecast a loss of more than 99% of its market value.

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao mocked economist Peter Schiff’s Bitcoin (BTC) forecasts in a Sunday post, while Schiff’s separate forecast still calls for a loss of more than 99% in Bitcoin’s market value.
Zhao wrote on X at about 8:26 p.m. ET Oct. 18 (00:26 UTC Oct. 19): “He will be right one day... after he changes his mind.” The post included no Bitcoin price target.
During a June 15, 2026, debate, Schiff was challenged to bet that Bitcoin would survive another 10 years. “It’s not going to go to zero. Maybe,” he replied.
Schiff later said a zero price was highly unlikely in the foreseeable future, but forecast that Bitcoin could lose more than 99% of its market value. He did not specify a date in that interview.
In February 2021, Schiff had allowed that Bitcoin might briefly reach $100,000 before eventually falling to zero. Bitcoin topped $100,000 during evening trading Dec. 4, 2024, ET (Dec. 5 UTC). The milestone matched a price Schiff had acknowledged as possible, but did not resolve his prediction of a later decline to zero.
