Former Coinbase Research Head David Duong Is Ethereum Institutional's Head of US

David Duong is Head of US at Ethereum Institutional, bringing his experience leading Coinbase Institutional research to a nonprofit working with financial firms on products built on Ethereum.

Duong was previously Global Head of Investment Research at Coinbase Institutional, where he led research for institutional clients. His career in institutional markets research spans more than 20 years. He spent 17 years at HSBC, Santander and Deutsche Bank.

Ethereum Institutional was founded July 1 as a Swiss nonprofit association by members of the Ethereum Foundation's enterprise team. It operates separately from the foundation and focuses on engagement with banks, asset managers and other institutions. BitMine, SharpLink, Joseph Lubin and Mihai Alisie are its anchor funders.

The group works with financial firms exploring tokenization, stablecoins and onchain market structure. Its work includes identifying what institutions need to issue and settle assets on Ethereum, then connecting them with teams across the network. It was hiring staff and onboarding institutions as of Oct. 15.

Duong's U.S. role places his research background alongside that institutional outreach. His experience includes work at Coinbase Institutional and at three established banks, giving the nonprofit a lead familiar with both crypto and traditional financial markets.

A recent bank deployment illustrates the kind of activity the group is seeking to support. On Oct. 19, J.P. Morgan made its dollar-denominated deposit token, JPM Coin (JPMD), available to institutional clients on Ethereum. The token was already available on Base, an Ethereum layer 2 network. J.P. Morgan Asset Management also launched tokenized money market funds on Ethereum earlier this year.
