Ripple CTO Emeritus David Schwartz marked the Oct. 19 debut of XRP's official X account with a Grateful Dead joke, drawing on the band's connection to Ripple's web address.

Schwartz shared the account's opening post and asked, “Time for the Grateful Dead to create an @XRP song?” The @XRP account introduced itself with the message, “hello, world. It’s about time.”

Ripple and the XRP Ledger Foundation jointly manage the new @XRP account. It gives XRP, the XRP Ledger's native token, its own official profile on X. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse also welcomed the account. Before its launch, XRP users often interacted with Ripple's account or its executives on the platform.

Schwartz's reference points to how Ripple acquired ripple.com. A Grateful Dead fan had registered the domain because of the band's song “Ripple,” and Ripple later obtained it from that fan. Schwartz, a co-architect of the XRP Ledger, left the CTO role at the end of 2025.
