BlackRock Chairman and CEO Larry Fink warned Wednesday that a slower buildout of data centers could keep AI computing expensive, adding to inflation and threatening economic growth.

In an interview on the sidelines of the Berlin Global Dialogue, Fink argued that building more data centers would increase the computing capacity available for artificial intelligence. Greater capacity could lower computing costs, he said, while construction delays could keep those costs high.

Fink also tied the pace of AI infrastructure construction to economic growth. His comments follow an Oct. 14 warning about a possible U.S. data center construction moratorium, when he said such a halt would put the country in a recession. That warning concerned a hypothetical moratorium.

The latest remarks focus on the speed of construction and the cost of computing capacity. Fink’s argument is that delays could make the computing power needed for AI more expensive and add to broader economic pressure.
