OKX founder and CEO Star Xu said exchanges should earn revenue from technology and services rather than customer funds. He described safeguarding customer assets as the most important principle for exchanges through market cycles.

Xu said his team had been in contact with Three Arrows Capital, which proposed a way to generate yield. Xu said he had no interest in the proposal.

He also said he rejected requests from other prime brokers for credit lines and delayed liquidation. Xu said protecting customer funds remains central even as assets under management grow rapidly.
