He cited card fees near 3% and $107 trillion in debt, compared with $52 trillion in 2007, as support for his argument.

Parker Lewis argued Bitcoin (BTC) could eventually settle global payments, with merchants’ ability to avoid card costs and chargebacks supporting the case for Bitcoin payments.

Lewis cited card fees of about 3% as a potential incentive for businesses. The discussion also addressed Lightning and Bitcoin’s on-chain capacity.

Lewis tied his payments argument to what he described as strain in the credit system. He compared $107 trillion in debt with $52 trillion in 2007 and argued the Federal Reserve and U.S. Department of the Treasury had lost control of the long end of the curve. He pointed to mortgage rates above 7% and corporate refinancing rates of 9% to 10% as signs of pressure, and described money printing as the only way out.

Lewis also argued that Bitcoin treasury companies and perpetual preferreds are misaligned with their investors.
