Claude Code Desktop Creator Anthony Morris Leaves Anthropic

Anthony Morris, creator of Claude Code’s desktop version, has announced he is leaving Anthropic after helping develop a visual interface for the company’s coding tool. His departure follows an Oct. 14 update that improved how the tool handles parallel tasks and manages sessions.
Claude Code began mainly as a command-line tool. Its desktop version gives users a visual way to manage coding tasks and multiple AI agent sessions, track progress and review code changes. Morris was introducing the Oct. 14 features and said the team would continue refining them based on user feedback.
In his farewell message, Morris said he built the desktop version because he believes everyone can become a creator. He described leaving his colleagues and a product he had invested himself in as the hardest decision of his career. He also joked that he now had time to play GTA VI and said he would share his next steps soon.
Claude Code engineer Thariq Shihipar had previously announced his departure. Shihipar had worked at Anthropic for more than a year and said he planned to take a break before starting a new role. Neither Morris nor Shihipar disclosed a reason for leaving.
