Helen Chiang Disputes Claim She Was Fired for Policy Violations
Chiang left 109 days after taking over Xbox’s first chief operating officer role. She did not explain her departure.

Helen Chiang challenged the fairness of standards she says were applied to her after leaving Microsoft’s Xbox division, while disputing an unverified allegation that she was fired for policy violations.
“I have serious concerns about how they were applied in my case,” Chiang wrote in a LinkedIn post. She did not identify the standards or explain why she left Microsoft.
One unnamed source alleged Chiang was terminated for policy violations. The claim was not independently verified, and Chiang called it inaccurate.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma told employees in an internal note that Chiang was leaving Microsoft on Oct. 23 and thanked her for her service. The note did not state whether Chiang resigned or was dismissed, and Microsoft has not publicly explained her departure.
The July 6 promotion made Chiang Xbox’s first COO, responsible for profit and loss across content, hardware, platform and services. Her departure came 109 days after her appointment.
