Cat Wu Moves From Anthropic to Lead Product Management at OpenAI

Cat Wu, who led product for Anthropic’s Claude Code and Cowork, is joining OpenAI to lead product management for its Core Products group, with a focus on reliable AI agents.

Wu said she will work alongside OpenAI’s existing product management teams. She described building reliable agents as her priority. Agents are AI systems that can handle multistep tasks rather than respond to just one prompt at a time. Wu also pointed to OpenAI’s reach of more than 1 billion users.

Wu joined Anthropic in August 2024 and worked on Claude Code. Her move comes after Thariq Shihipar’s exit after more than a year working on Claude Code. Shihipar announced his departure Oct. 24 and did not name his next destination.
