The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has postponed decisions on two highly anticipated cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs)—the Bitwise Dogecoin (DOGE) ETF and the Franklin XRP Fund. According to filings released late Tuesday, the SEC will determine the next steps for the DOGE ETF by June 15 and for the XRP ETF by June 17.

Under current regulations, the SEC has 45 days to approve, deny, or extend consideration for ETF proposals after a rule change is published. This period can be lengthened up to 90 days to allow additional time for review. In its filings, the SEC stated that "a longer period is appropriate" to thoroughly assess the proposals and the concerns they raise.

Market analysts were unsurprised by the delay. Bloomberg Intelligence’s James Seyffart commented on X (formerly Twitter) that the postponements were expected, with most final ETF decision deadlines not due until October 2025 or later. He also noted delays for Ethereum staking and Dogecoin-related ETFs, predicting similar outcomes soon for filings involving Solana and Hedera (HBAR).

Despite the regulatory uncertainty, market prices remained stable. XRP and DOGE saw little movement over the past 24 hours, tracking Bitcoin’s largely flat trading activity.

Crypto investors are closely watching the SEC’s handling of spot ETFs for altcoins like XRP, DOGE, and others. Approval of these funds could mark a significant milestone in the integration of cryptocurrencies into mainstream financial products. However, the repeated delays highlight the SEC’s cautious stance as it evaluates the broader implications of allowing crypto assets into regulated investment vehicles.

With final deadlines set for later this year, the crypto market continues to wait on regulatory clarity for altcoin ETFs.
