GENIUS Act Passes, Paving Way for First U.S. Crypto Law Under Trump

GENIUS Act Passes, Paving Way for First U.S. Crypto Law Under Trump.

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed the GENIUS Act, the country’s first major crypto legislation, focused on regulating stablecoins. The bill now heads to President Donald Trump for signing after a strong bipartisan House vote of 308-122, following its earlier 68-30 Senate approval.

The Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act marks a turning point for U.S. crypto regulation, granting federal agencies clear authority to oversee stablecoin issuers like Tether (USDT) and Circle (USDC). Long stalled by regulatory resistance and legislative gridlock, this breakthrough reflects growing bipartisan interest in establishing a digital asset framework.

The move follows the House’s passage of the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or “CLARITY,” another key crypto bill that sets broader rules for digital assets. Although passed 294-134 in the House, CLARITY now faces a more uncertain future in the Senate, where lawmakers are still drafting their version.

Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott aims to finalize the market structure legislation by September 30, citing the House bill as a helpful model. Meanwhile, lobbyists are closely monitoring Democratic support, which could sway Senate momentum.

President Trump has played an active role, hosting crypto leaders and pushing for legislative progress before the August recess. While stablecoin regulation moves ahead, market structure remains the industry's top priority — though experts warn it may face delays beyond the president’s deadline.

Also advancing is the Anti-CBDC Surveillance Act, which passed along party lines and will be attached to the National Defense Authorization Act due to limited bipartisan support.

With GENIUS nearly law, the U.S. crypto sector inches closer to regulatory clarity — a long-awaited milestone in the global digital asset race.
