Florida Congressman Mike Haridopolos has renewed his support for the Clarity Act, warning that continued Senate delays could weaken the United States' position in the global digital asset industry. Speaking on Fox Business' Mornings with Maria, the House Financial Services Committee member stressed that the legislation is essential to ensuring the U.S. remains the world's leading financial market for cryptocurrency innovation.

Haridopolos argued that the bill would provide long-awaited regulatory clarity for the crypto sector while preventing blockchain companies, developers, and investment capital from moving overseas. He criticized Democratic lawmakers for delaying progress, saying political tactics are preventing legislation that many Americans support.

The Clarity Act cleared the House in July 2025 with a strong bipartisan vote of 294-134. The legislation seeks to establish clear regulatory responsibilities between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for digital assets. Supporters believe the measure would strengthen investor protection, encourage innovation, and create a more predictable legal framework for cryptocurrency businesses.

Senator Cynthia Lummis has also intensified calls for Senate action, urging lawmakers to bring the bill to the floor before the August 8 congressional recess. Senate Majority Leader John Thune previously indicated he was prepared to force a vote even without the 60 votes needed to overcome a filibuster, ensuring every senator's position would be publicly recorded.

However, the legislative timeline has tightened after the Senate postponed consideration of the Clarity Act on July 28 to prioritize 74 Trump administration nominations and the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia Act of 2026. The delay leaves only a narrow window for Senate action before lawmakers adjourn.

Meanwhile, opposition continues to grow. New York Attorney General Letitia James warned that the bill could reduce states' ability to combat cryptocurrency fraud, while some Democrats have raised concerns over ethics provisions included in the Senate draft.

Despite the political hurdles, industry support remains strong. Major financial institutions and crypto firms—including Charles Schwab, Coinbase, Ripple, BlackRock, Fidelity, Goldman Sachs, and the Digital Chamber—continue backing the Clarity Act, arguing that regulatory certainty is crucial for institutional investment, crypto ETFs, and broader blockchain adoption. Supporters warn that prolonged delays could push comprehensive crypto market structure reform into 2027, potentially allowing competing global markets to gain an edge over the United States.
