Canada is expanding its role in the regulated cryptocurrency market by opening a new pathway for U.S. investors to gain exposure to XRP derivatives. Options linked to Canadian spot XRP ETFs have been cleared for sale in the United States, strengthening institutional access to XRP through regulated financial products.
The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC) confirmed the development in a Form 8-K filing dated Sept. 9, 2026. The filing registered options tied to the Evolve XRP ETF and Purpose XRP ETF for U.S. distribution under Form S-20.
Both XRP ETF options have traded on the Montreal Exchange since early 2026 and now join derivatives linked to Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana within the regulated framework. The expansion gives U.S. market participants another way to trade XRP price movements without directly holding the cryptocurrency.
The regulatory foundation was supported by notices published in the U.S. Federal Register, where the SEC and CFTC classified XRP as a qualifying digital commodity. That framework has helped provide institutional investors with greater regulatory clarity when accessing XRP through conventional exchange-traded products.
Canadian banks are also beginning to show limited exposure to XRP investment products. According to Form 13F-HR disclosures, National Bank of Canada reported a position worth roughly $330,000 in the Bitwise XRP ETF. Bank of Montreal also disclosed investments in XRP-related products as part of its broader portfolio diversification.
These positions remain relatively small, but they demonstrate how traditional financial institutions are approaching cryptocurrency through regulated ETFs rather than directly holding digital tokens or managing crypto wallets.
Canada's XRP ETF infrastructure dates back to summer 2025, when the country became the first North American market to introduce fully physically backed spot XRP ETFs on the Toronto Stock Exchange. The funds track the CME CF XRP-Dollar Reference Rate and can be held in tax-advantaged accounts, including TFSAs and RRSPs.
With regulated XRP ETFs, derivatives and growing institutional participation, Canada has developed an increasingly mature XRP investment ecosystem. Its latest move extends that infrastructure into the U.S., offering American investors another regulated route to XRP exposure.
