Iran Ties Strait of Hormuz Reopening to Unmet Conditions
A senior Iranian security official said Tehran is not rushing into negotiations and has delivered its terms through Qatar and Pakistan.
Iran will keep the Strait of Hormuz closed until its conditions are met, a senior Iranian national security official said Sept. 23, signaling no immediate return to negotiations.
The official said Iran was not in a hurry to negotiate with the United States. Tehran’s conditions have already been prepared and delivered to Qatar and Pakistan, he said.
The remarks came in a broader criticism of President Donald Trump’s address to the United Nations General Assembly. The Iranian official accused Trump of portraying the war as peace and terrorism as security while arguing that U.S. military action had not weakened Iran.
The official also claimed Iran’s international influence had grown and described the country as one of the world’s four major powers. The Strait of Hormuz will not reopen until Tehran’s conditions are fulfilled, he said.
