Rubio Says Russia, Ukraine Show Interest In Limited Ceasefire
The United States is willing to help advance difficult talks focused on energy and food-related pauses in fighting.
U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said Russia and Ukraine have both shown interest in limited ceasefires covering food and energy.
Rubio said the two sides view energy facilities as strategic targets. He described negotiations over an energy ceasefire as difficult but said the United States is willing to play a constructive role in moving the process forward.
Rubio also discussed the Russia-Ukraine conflict and U.S.-Russia relations with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov. He said he hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will accept an invitation to attend the Group of 20 summit, which he described as a potential opportunity for talks between the U.S. and Russian leaders.
