Zelenskyy Says U.S. Pushes Energy Truce and Three-Way Talks
The proposal includes reopening a food corridor and a possible U.S.-Russia-Ukraine summit, with Abu Dhabi suggested for preliminary talks.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United States is promoting an energy ceasefire and broader negotiations with Russia and Ukraine as part of efforts to reduce the war’s escalation risk.
The proposed plan has three elements: suspending attacks on energy infrastructure, reopening a food corridor and arranging a trilateral meeting involving the United States, Russia and Ukraine. The U.S. has suggested that technical teams meet first, with Abu Dhabi proposed as the location.
Zelenskyy also said the December G20 summit could provide an opportunity for a meeting between the three countries’ leaders.
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy Dmitry Dmitriev is scheduled to arrive in New York on Thursday to meet with a U.S. envoy and discuss the proposals. The next concrete step is the planned technical-level discussion before any potential leaders’ summit.
