Tether Holds $114.96 Billion in U.S. Treasuries as Overseas Plan Emerges
Tether reported $187.75 billion in reserve assets as of June 30, while the proposed initiative could involve Treasury, State and the DFC.

Tether held $114.96 billion in U.S. Treasury securities as of June 30, while the Trump administration considered an overseas stablecoin initiative that could broaden dollar use and support demand for government debt.
Tether’s reserve assets totaled $187.75 billion, exceeding its liabilities by $4.11 billion. The Treasury holdings represented a large portion of the reserves backing the company’s stablecoin operations.
The proposed overseas initiative could use a joint venture with private companies. The U.S. Treasury Department, State Department and U.S. International Development Finance Corp. may participate.
The plan has not been formally launched, and no partnership with Tether has been established. The proposal would connect stablecoin expansion abroad with broader U.S. efforts to promote the dollar and sustain demand for Treasury securities.
