Iran Ties Strait of Hormuz Reopening to Its Conditions
Tehran said it will not compromise on its demands and is awaiting a mediator’s final message before deciding its next step.
Iran has tied any reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to the fulfillment of its conditions, keeping a major energy route at the center of rising geopolitical risk for global markets and crypto assets.
Iran’s foreign minister said Sept. 27 that Tehran would not give ground on its established conditions and would not compromise on the issues involved. Any progress toward reopening the strait will depend on whether those conditions are implemented.
Iran has received an initial U.S. reaction to its proposal but has not yet received specific details through mediators, the minister said. Tehran is waiting for the mediators to convey the U.S. final position before deciding how to proceed.
U.S. President Donald Trump said Sept. 26 that he rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway’s status remains linked to negotiations between the two sides and the conditions Iran has set.
