U.S. Central Command Says Iran Has Lost Navy, Strait Control
The command rejected an Iranian claim of full control over the waterway and said thousands of vessels and more than 1 billion barrels of oil have passed through in recent months.
The U.S. Central Command said Sept. 28 that Iran no longer controls the Strait of Hormuz and that U.S. forces have sunk the Iranian navy, marking a major escalation around a key global energy corridor.
The command rejected a claim by a senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander that Iran had complete control of the strait through its navy. It said the Iranian navy no longer exists after being destroyed by U.S. forces.
Thousands of vessels have continued to pass through the waterway in recent months, along with more than 1 billion barrels of oil, the command said.
