Tether Freezes Nearly $550 Million in Iran-Linked USDT This Year
The freezes included more than $344 million in April and more than $130 million in July amid U.S. sanctions enforcement.

Tether said it has frozen nearly $550 million in Tether (USDT) linked to Iran this year as part of U.S. sanctions enforcement, adding to scrutiny of stablecoins in illicit-finance investigations.
The freezes included more than $344 million in April after U.S. authorities provided information about wallets tied to unlawful activity. Tether also froze more than $130 million in July after U.S. sanctions action involving Iran-linked wallets.
Tether’s freezing mechanism is aligned with the U.S. Specially Designated Nationals list, which identifies individuals, companies and addresses subject to sanctions. The company said it has coordinated with U.S. authorities in the actions.
The measures show how a stablecoin issuer can freeze tokens in wallets targeted by sanctions.
