Florida Seeks Court Oversight of OpenAI’s New AI Model Development
The state also wants to bar minors from using ChatGPT and restrict human-like chatbot features as part of its lawsuit against OpenAI.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier asked a court to block OpenAI from developing new artificial intelligence models without external oversight, escalating scrutiny of the company’s safety practices in the United States.
The request is part of Florida’s existing lawsuit against OpenAI. The state also wants the court to prohibit minors from using ChatGPT and restrict features that give the chatbot human-like characteristics.
OpenAI said it has paused training its most advanced models and will not resume until it implements additional safety measures. The company also said it is willing to work with Florida and other states on safety policies for the broader AI industry.
OpenAI denies responsibility for the cases involved.
