Coinbase Wins CFTC Approval for Its Own Derivatives Clearinghouse
Coinbase Clearing can now clear fully collateralized futures, options and swaps using USDC, while margin products remain with external partners.

Coinbase Clearing LLC received approval from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission on Sept. 28 to register as a derivatives clearing organization, giving Coinbase direct clearing capacity for fully collateralized derivatives in the U.S.
The approval completes Coinbase’s regulated derivatives structure, alongside futures commission merchant Coinbase Financial Markets Inc. and designated contract market Coinbase Derivatives LLC.
Coinbase Clearing is authorized to clear fully collateralized futures, futures options and swaps. Coinbase said the entity uses USDC as collateral and supports settlement around the clock, allowing the company to build and clear these contracts directly for the first time.
Margin-based derivatives remain outside the new approval. Coinbase will continue using external partners for those products, as well as for planned single-stock perpetual contracts.
The company said the clearinghouse will support existing products and provide infrastructure for future regulated offerings.
