Trump Praises Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei at White House AI Lunch
The meeting followed disputes over military use of Anthropic’s models and differing views on AI regulation and safety.
President Donald Trump praised Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei during a White House lunch Tuesday with about 24 technology executives and industry leaders, after disputes over military use of Anthropic’s artificial intelligence models and AI regulation.
Trump called Amodei “excellent” during the gathering and also praised Nvidia CEO Huang and Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The meeting followed Trump’s planned dinner with Amodei, which took place Sunday as the two sides held opposing positions on AI safety.
Trump has supported lighter regulation of artificial intelligence. Amodei has criticized that approach, warned that AI could pose serious risks to humanity and urged a slower pace of development.
Amodei met Senate Majority Leader John Thune at the Capitol on Monday. Thune and Sen. Amy Klobuchar are working on legislation intended to prevent catastrophic harm from artificial intelligence.
The discussions bring Anthropic’s safety concerns into a broader policy debate involving the White House, Congress and major technology companies.
